Congratulations to Rayna Brandes, Federal Compliance Specialist, our new Support Staff Person of the Year!
Mrs. Brandes began her career in education in 1995. She earned a BA in English and Secondary Education from Clemson, and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from USC. After getting her master’s degree, she taught high school English for three years, in LexingtonSchool District Two at Brookland-Cayce High School. Following that, she taught classes and supervised student teachers at Louisiana State University while earning her Ed.S degree.
After the birth of her two sons, Ben and Sam, she chose to be a stay-at-home mom for a little while, but even then she worked part-time for Lexington School District Two reading and grading AP English essays. In 2009 she started subbing in Lexington School District One. She was hired at LES during the 2011-2012 school year and was a RTI reading Interventionist for four years. She then became our Federal Compliance Specialist and is in her fifth year in this position, totalling nine years at Lexington Elementary. She brings a wealth of experience and diverse educational background. She is well-known for her smile and positive attitude!
Her sons are/were Lexington One students. Ben attended Lexington Elementary School, Lexington Middle School, and then graduated from River Bluff in 2018. Sam attended Lexington Elementary School and Lexington Middle School and is currently at junior at River Bluff. When not at work, Mrs. Brandes like to read, travel with my family (husband and two sons), and volunteer with the River Bluff Gator Band.
Our other support services finalists were Wanda Bach, Learning Commons (library) assistant and Lynette Proffitt, Cafe Head Cashier. We appreciate all our amazing support staff, and know we couldn’t do all we need to do without them!
